Sofie and Will's international wedding
She is from Denmark, he is from the UK, they met in - Peru. This is the story that was told in all facettes throughout the wedding day of Sofie and Will. Each time the story was told, it had a slightly different angle, a slightly different focal point, a sligtly different timeline. They all ended on that day in August when Sofie and Will finally got married.
We already knew Sofie and Will from the wedding of her brother Alexander in 2018. It is always reaffirming to get contacted by couples that not only have seen our photos, but also have actually seen us at work.
Getting ready - Pulling weeds and sipping champagne
When this photo was taken later on the day, Will had just told Sofie that she probably was sipping champagne and putting on her dress while he was still pulling weeds on the beach they were going to be wed on.
He wasn’t entirely wrong. The activities of bride and groom before the ceremony were indeed slightly different.
Will meditating on the empty (weeded!) beach and contemplating his life choices (How did going to Peru make him end up in Denmark?).
In the meantime, Sofie managed to have a little photoshoot in front of the industrial harbour seemingly enjoying her life choices. Judith had spotted the backdrop on the way to the location where Sofie was getting ready and carefully pitched the idea of taking some photos there. It’s not often that there is time for photos before the ceremony, so it’s always awesome when it can fit in.
Beach ceremony
Danish summer days are often slightly breezy, but the wedding day of Will and Sofie had some excellent flowing hair wind. Especially with their wedding ceremony being held on the beach, the weather and atmosphere were pretty dramatic.
Docken, the industrial wedding venue
Luckily, the rain first came after the outdoor ceremony when everyone could hang out inside with snacks and bubbles (and gin).
Luckily, the venue - Docken - had plenty of space and we could even snap a few couple photos in one of their other halls with a very industrial, raw feeling.
Luckily, inbetween rain showers the sun came out and people were playing games and we managed to get some golden hour photos of the couple in front of the water.
Something we tried for the first time at Janni and Alexander’s wedding was to take photos of the wedding waltz outside with sparklers held by the guests providing the only source light. To take advantage of us being two photographers, one would take photos only with available light, while the other one would take photos with flash to be make sure that we got some different photos.
Congratulations to Sofie and Will, and thank you for letting us follow you on this day!
Also please look this amazing donut wedding tower.
The party that ensued afterwards was a great cultural exchange of drinking games - involving some cup flipping that we don’t fully understand yet - and lots of beautiful dancing people that made our jobs so much easier!
