Janni And Alexander's Adventure Wedding in Aarhus

Well, it wasn’t a real adventure wedding to be honest. We didn’t climb snow covered mountains, photographed the couple saying their vows while balancing on a slackline or got drenched in a waterfall capturing the lovebirds cuddling up in a cave behind. However, this wedding included

  • a helicopter
  • flying axes
  • an airgun
  • (not) poisoned darts

So compared to the other weddings we’ve experienced so far, this one definitely was the most adventurous one!

The start of Janni and Alexander’s lovestory sounds like taken right out of a typical romantic movie (featuring a trolley as matchmaker), has since battled tought times and now reached that point, where they put a ring on it. When they asked us to cover their wedding day (they were one of the many lucky ones who got 18-08-2018), we couldn’t say no even though it would take place in Aarhus.

The 18th August 2018 started with a nice drive through the Danish country side and a voluminous breakfast on the ferry to Aarhus - you really have to stack up on those calories for a wedding!

Getting Ready

The getting ready of both Janni and Alexander were busy. While Janni’s morning featured various consequences of pregnancy (no, not her own) (no, no birth either), Alexander was the man to fix the last open issues with the bar.

Many Danish couples give each other presents at the morning of the wedding. It’s a beautiful way of sharing the last minutes of excitement with each other even though they’re not together.

Janni gathered a whole care package for Alexander with a lot of small gifts for the time until they see each other at the church and as promises for married life after.

The Ceremony at Egå Church

Janni and Alexander got wed in the church of Egå just outside of Aarhus. It’s a typical small church with a beautiful alley of birches leading to the entrance.

The nervous groom waiting for his lovely bride (and making use of one her presents from the morning to calm the nerves - as long as he is still able to say I do everything goes, right?).

Wedding Surprise: The Helicopter!

Vintage cars and limousines - yes, even horse carriages - are for amateurs, Alexander thought. So he surprised his now-wife and all the guests with a speciel method of transportation landing right in front of the church: A chopper!

And as the helicopter could fit four persons in total, one of us photographers had to join as well, of course. Which ended being me as I wanted to try out being in a helicopter. (Jonathan would prefer to fly one himself. I don’t think he would have been allowed to do that with a wedding couple in the back, though.)

So we cruised around in the air above Aarhus, making our way to the venue. On the way, the pilot pointed out points of interest to us and demonstrating a safety practice pilots apparently have to do a certain amount of times a year (and which I bet he does with every couple he flies around).

Even though the view and light was amazing, the helicopter was really small and cables were hanging all around, so I was practically blind shooting them most of the time while trying to enjoy the ride myself as well.

Huuuuiiiiiiiiiii

Dear future wedding couples - the bar has been raised!

(No, just kidding. A wedding is about you, don’t listen to us silly photogaphers trying to challenge you.)

Celebrations at Koldkærgård Hotel

After returning to the safety of the ground, the reception started at Koldkærgård Hotel. This is, where axes, darts and airgun came into the picture. Instead of getting couple photos taken, Janni and Alexander decided to hang out with their friends and family and have fun with competitions, quizes and a candy bar (I love this new trend).

Have you got an idea of Alxexander’s personality already? Having the champagne prepared in glasses upon the guests’ arrival is for amateurs as well, obviously. It’s much more fun to grab the saber yourself and trying your look at beheading those bottles yourself!

The candy bar also indcluded a popcorn machine, which people loved and made for a tons of funny pictures of popcorn stuffing.

All that kissing!

janni-alexander-wedding-aarhus-helicopter-61

Yes, she was opening his pants! O_O

(Besides the table, you can spot the infamous trolley that is the reason why we all ended up at that hotel that day and Janni opened Alexander’s pants in front of their wedding guests.)

Congratulations to Janni and Alexander, and thank you for letting us document that day for you!
